The National Biennale of Drawing and Painting by Students of Secondary Schools of Art has been organized by the Art School in Bielsko-Biała and the Artistic Education Centre of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage since 1993. For this year's competition, a total of 566 works have been submitted from 33 secondary schools all over Poland. These included 274 drawings and 292 paintings. The exhibition at Galeria Bielska BWA presents the jury's choice of the award-winning drawings and paintings.

The Grand Prix for artistic work in the painting category went to Irmina Raczek of the School of Fine Arts in Katowice for her triptych Trip. The winner's supervising teacher was Halina Tymusz.

The First Prize in the painting category was presented to Magdalena Misztal of the School of Art in Gronowo Górne for the work Architecture; supervising teacher - Aleksandra Hońko. The First Prize in the drawing category was awarded to Nikola Gaszyńska of the School of Fine Arts in Koszalin for the work Grimace; supervising teacher - Tadeusz Walczak.

The Art Schools Biennale is an opportunity for art students to compare their skills in applying the rules of composition, observation of nature, correctness of the construction of form and space and the choice of means of expression. The competition also provides a chance to confront different artistic attitudes represented by young artists aged 17 to 21. Displayed in a spacious exhibition hall in Galeria Bielska BWA, these works can reach a wide audience, including viewers from outside art school circles.

As always, the jury assessing the students' work consisted of renowned artists: Professor Janusz Karbowniczek - Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice (chairman), Professor Jacek Rykała - Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, Professor Zbigniew Purczyński - Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź, and Professor Wojciech Zubala - Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.

The exhibition runs from 10 March to 2 April, 2017.
