This exhibition of recent paintings by Artur Trojanowski is the result of the artist's search for inspiration in the area of landscape painting. It marks a departure from traditional forms of presentation in favour of more interesting and intimate painting form, which is characterized by vague shapes containing pulsating energy which imposes a certain rhythm. His is an afterglow rather than a piece of tangible reality.

"The painting technique used in Emanations is meant to resemble computer graphics. What we see are blurred and pixelated images. This is a kind of perceptual game, in which some things are disclosed (through the shapes which sometimes resemble real objects) and others hidden in the sequences of colourful spots and rounded contours. The stains break apart, appear to be moving and creating an extra dimension, as if they were frozen in the process of transformation or the never-ending emanation. Sometimes we see the emergence of solar and lunar forms, or original symbols which are typical for traditional cultures, and which hint at hidden atavisms, at impressions and moods which are common to us all, regardless of experience, knowledge and contexts that have shaped our sensitivity. One gets the impression that these are representations of reality which refuses to be contained within the space of the painting. We may try to approach this reality through individual contemplation, or assume that what we see is only one of the possible dimensions of communing with the form, which is defined by fluctuation and energy flow" - says Jakub Wydrzyński in an essay about Emanations.

 

 

The latest works by Artur Trojanowski broaden the boundaries of the viewer's perception, while often conjuring up the latest theories related to the processes occurring in the time-space continuum. Jolanta Bobala believes that these paintings were inspired by the theory of gravitational waves and the string theory.

"Before he begins painting, Trojanowski invariably embarks on a journey - the places he observes contains different energy charges. The task of the artist is to feel these "vibrations" and determine their colour - whether they are on the cool or warm side of the palette. Moreover, different places project different energy maps - this energy may burn a hole in the picture, or mark its presence with a fluorescent streak breaking the empty space" - says Jolanta Bobala.

Galeria Bielska BWA presented Artur Trojanowski's series of paintings entitled Non-Views. On Landscape Today during the 8th Biennale "Bielska Jesień". The exhibition, curated by Jolanta Ciesielska, featured several artists, all depicting landscape in an innovative way.

 

 

"Artur Trojanowski watches the world from a distance, and yet he is not deprived of tenderness. He describes himself as an anti-romanticist, although in fact, he is a utopian idealist, closely observing both his immediate surroundings, and virtual data defining the extremes of the outside world, formed hundreds of miles from the safety of home. In doing so, he is very observant, accurate, and unforgiving. With excellent spatial hearing - both aural and semantic - he will never be driven into a corner. What he paints, he immediately sees, hears, and worst of all, feels (in his declared anti-romantic way). This makes him suffer. But he never remains long in this state, he doesn't throw his hands, but carries on undaunted", says Jolanta Ciesielska.

 

Artur Trojanowski was born in 1968 in Łódź. He studied at the Faculty of Visual Education at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź (1988-1993); degree in Printmaking under Professor Tomasz Chojnacki (1993) and in Painting under Professor Jacek Bigoszewski. His artistic pursuits include painting, drawing, video and actions in urban and rural areas; founder of a one-man "intervention group" called Foodstuffs, and the so-called Anti-Advertisement Laboratory; winner of the "Painting of the Year" competition organized by the magazine Art & Business (2002, 2003, 2005), finalist of the 2nd Art Biennale in Piotrków Trybunalski (2013) and of the First International Competition of Painting Modessqe "Perfectionists", Warsaw 2013.

 

He has presented his work in the Culture Centre ZAMEK in Poznań, Centre of Contemporary Art in Toruń, Museum of Cinematography in Łódź, the Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw, BWA in Bydgoszcz, Galeria Bielska BWA in Bielsko-Biała, and also abroad, in New York, Nuremberg, Strasbourg, Helsingør, Essen and Kiev. He currently lives and works in Lanckorona near Kraków.
