Exhibition of prints, paintings and sculptures showcasing the ample oeuvre of Eduard Ovčáček - one of the most important Czech artists living and working in Ostrava. Born in 1933 in Třinec, the former Czechoslovakia, Ovčáček is an artist pusuing painting, printmaking, sculpture, visual and concrete poetry, collage, installation and performance. His work, spanning 50 years of artistic career, will be presented in both the rooms of Galeria Bielska BWA.
Eduard Ovčáček was born on 5 March 1933 in Třinec, the former Czechoslovakia. In 1963 he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts (Vysoká Škola výtvarných Umení) in Bratislava. By the beginning of 1960 he had teamed up with Miloš Urbásek and found the Confrontation Group (Konfrontace) promoting the Informalism in Czechoslovakia. In 1965, the Confrontation Group took part in the First Biennale of Spatial Forms in Elbląg. He taught print art at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the J. Palacký University in Olomouc from 1963 to 1968 - the latter marking the armed intervention of the Warsaw Pact forces. In 1967, he co-founded the Concrete Arts Club (Club Konkretistů) and began to deal with screen printing. He was a signatory of Charter 77. He is a member of SVU Manes (Manes Association of Fine Artists) and of the Association of Czech Graphic Artists and Painters "Hollar" (Sdružení Českých Umělců a Grafiků "Hollar"), which he joined in 1993 and 2001 respectively. In 1995 he published an anthology of his concrete poetry entitled "lekce Velkého A". In recent years, he has been active in organizing the Serigraphy Workshop in Ostrava, as well as teaching printing techniques at the Faculty of Education at the University of Ostrava in the Czech Republic. Winner of the Main Award at the International Print Trienniale in Prague and Kraków (1995 ). In 1998, he won the prestigious Vladimír Boudník Award for Lifetime Achievement.

The exhibition is organized in cooperation with Třinec - a sister city of Bielsko-Biała, the Municipal Gallery of Třinec (Galerie města Třince)
and the Contemporary Art Gallery in Ostrava (Galerie výtvarného umění v Ostravě).
